Toowoomba Regional Council’s Dekho Disaster Response

When floods wreaked havoc in Queensland earlier this year, one of the worst affected areas was the city of Toowoomba. Flash floods ripped through Toowoomba on the 10th of January 2011, taking lives and devastating a community. Nothing could be done to prevent the situation, but for Toowoomba Regional Council, responding to the situation in a smart and timely manner was critical.

The most recent issue Position Magazine (April/May 2011) features an article on how Toowoomba Regional Council used Dekho, Esri Australia’s geographic web application server, to enable staff to prioritise, delegate and monitor disaster response during this difficult time.

It’s a great article on how GIS can assist in times of crisis (it’s even the front cover story) – take a read when you get a chance!
