Ozri Update: GIS on the Move – Getting Mobile

Gordon and I have have kicked off the Ozri sessions with our first of two presentations on some of the mobile offerings from Esri.  In case you missed it, here is how it went down…

First of all we set the scene by going over some of the different options available and then we highlighted a few of the devices used for deploying Esri technology in the field.  I introduced ArcPad and demonstrated how easy it is to compile a new project and then compile that project into a geodatabase.

I also took the opportunity to explain some of the tricks of the ArcPad interface.  Gordon then went on to explain how to use ArcGIS Mobile on a PC – this is a great tool as the data applies to Mobile seamlessly from the SDE.  Gordon then sent me on a little field trip to collect data via the Esri Application on the iPhone… which highlighted to the audience how this data was instantly uploaded onto the web application.

We concluded our presentation outlining a few guidelines to consider when deciding which mobile application is best for your work.

Thanks to everyone who came along today.  For those who missed it, we will be presenting on this topic again tomorrow afternoon at 3.45pm.
