This morning’s presentations Stream C presentations had a real focus on efficiently managing data.
Toby Clewett from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council spoke about how the council is dealing with the challenge of urban sprawl on the coastal region’s biodiversity. Toby detailed how the council made massive productivity gains in mapping the region’s woody vegetations, reducing the processing time from two years to three weeks. What an achievement! Next up was Kelly Speller, a Scientist from the QLD Department of Environment and Resources, who discussed the Department’s work in producing a baseline land use map for all Great Barrier Reef catchments. Kerry spoke about how recent advances in GIS technology are helping to improve land use mapping procedures, enabling reliable and efficient data management. It’s exciting to see the role that GIS plays in helping to protect and manage our environment.
