Looking back on the ArcGIS Online presentation, there is a key point for me based on my work with Amazon Web Services (AWS) one of the foundations behind ArcGIS Online.
AWS is six years old, the cloud isn’t new, it is an evolution of hosting and data centres and many other networking and virtualisation technologies mashed up into a platform that is about scale. Massive scale! Scale of processing power, scale of deployment, scale of user access, scale of dissemination across any device and scale of increasing dependability. What the cloud does more than anything else when combined with Esri’s technology is give you, our GIS community, a platform to “amplify your work”.
When you combine that with blurring of the lines between the products giving a consistent experience and capability across platforms, ArcGIS Online is simply another channel to get your work to come alive and tell stories that make better decisions possible.
