Ozri 2013: Planet GIS Snapshot (Day 2)

After stepping out of an incredible plenary session and indulging on the delectable spread, I made my way over to see Esri’s Ismael Chivite and our very own Keera Pullman present on “What’s new in 10.2”. Now that 10.2 has landed I was excited to learn about all the new functionality and enhancements in quality, performance and security.

Up next was “The Art of Data” presented by Sensis’ General Manager, Fred Curtis. He discussed the importance of GIS and how it is reshaping the way we think and make decisions.

We took a break and grabbed a quick snack before we getting stuck into “Adding Value to your Desktop” presented by Esri Australia’s Erik Sandin. Erik provided us with a great insight into ArcGIS for Desktop and how to overcome issues revolving around data limitations – not to mention the great resources available!

Finally, Ebony Wickramanayake and Keera Pullman illustrated that cartography is more than just a map – it is an art. During their presentation, “The Art of Cartography” they took us through the fundamental principles and best practices of cartography. We also got a glimpse into how these principles can be applied to both 2D and 3D mapping. It was simply fascinating!

Today was certainly action packed! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
